My Arrogance

I live in the United States.� Therefore, I tend to think that all other countries have the same dating custom practices as the U.S.� It never occurs to me that other countries have their own customs and that the United States does not set the standard for what is considered “normal” whether it be in drinking customs or dating practices.� Because I no longer wish to be ignorant like most Americans are, I decided to do a bit of research on dating sites in the United Kingdom.� What better place to start than by doing a Google search under “free online dating in the UK?”��

Not Much Difference in the Online Dating World

I noticed that the free online dating sites that were based in the United Kingdom were not much different than those based in the United States.� Both offer niche specific dating sites.� One such site is called Over25s.co.uk, which offers live chat, relationship and dating tips and forum discussions – just like a U.S. based dating site would.� Another thing United Kingdom based online dating sites have in common with the United States is that they too advertise “free” online dating services, only to offer very limited services within their “free” memberships (e.g., inability to initiate conversations or respond to emails unless upgraded to paying member status).� Some things never change.

Women in the U.K. Versus Women in the U.S.

I guess the reason the dating websites of the United Kingdom are not so different from the United States’ dating websites is because we are so closely affiliated.� But that’s as close a similarity the two cultures have.� For some reason though, I still get the impression that the women in the United Kingdom were never quite as loose as the women in the United States.� So even though the dating sites are set up the same way, the dating customs are still completely different.� The women in the United Kingdom just seem to, eh, behave too proper to behave like sluts.� Also, I don’t recall ever reading in history about women in the United Kingdom burning their bras or sleeping with every Tom, Dick and Harry during the 60s, as did the women in the United States – just to prove a point.� And what exactly was the point?

I guess you can tell I have a certain disdain for American women, huh?� I actually admire the way the British behave.� Even when the British behave “immorally”, their accent and mannerisms are so proper it makes the most outrageous behavior seem appropriate.� It kind of reminds me of being cussed out in the French language.� The French language sounds so classy and upscale you can’t tell the difference between someone telling you that you have a lovely coif and someone who has just told you that you look like an ape and that you need to go shave your legs!�

What Was I Saying…?

So, getting back to the online dating culture of the U.K. and their online dating practices… free online dating in the U.K. is very much promoted the same as the U.S. based online dating sites are promoted.� But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the United Kingdom has adopted our dating customs.� I still think they have way more morals in that department than Americans.
