Every person, no matter how great or rich, is entitled to his rights as a human being. However, defending one’s rights is not exactly the easiest thing as there are those who are more than willing to crush them when given the chance. Thankfully, there are groups that are devoted to defending the rights of people, especially those who are in need. An organization that is specialized for concerns regarding the labor law and the protection of employee’s rights is called a Trade Union.
What are Trade Unions?
Trade Unions focus on helping workers assert their rights. It is crucial for all employees to join a trade union that is recognized in their home towns so that they may be protected from abuse.
Trade unions are most commonly famous for being behind some of the rallies and strikes that their members go on whenever there is a big strife between them and their employers. As such, opinions on Trade Unions vary among the people. Some members may view them merely as disturbers of the peace. But in reality, trade unions give much more help than harm.
What is Their Function?
Protests and rallies aren’t the only things that trade unions are good for. In fact, most of the time, these actions are used only as the last resort. Other ways of negotiation are exhausted before doing something extreme. They will do this so that the working conditions of their members would become favorable. Other things they do include handing out free legal advice to their members. Nowadays, where all things have a price, and just good legal advice from a lawyer could already cost a lot of money, trade unions really do come in handy. The leaders and management of trade unions know the labor code’s ins and outs and can therefore give important advice. Also, when a member of the trade fagforening has some problems with the law in something related to to his job, then the trade union could also give help, most especially in cases when the worker cannot afford to hire his own lawyer. The trade union would ensure that their member is aptly represented and has a chance at protecting his rights. Truly, it would be in the best interests to any employee to join a Trade Union.
